Last year in December, Korean music producer Ohwon Lee released his song "Love Yours" featuring Filipino boy group SB19. I thought it was a love song based on its title, but in reality, the song was about loving yourself.

My sister, a fellow fan of SB19, said she was confused when she was listening to the song, and I agreed with her. I also thought the song would be something about a break-up or maybe even a song dedicated to someone you loved.

Even after listening to it a couple of times, it was still a mystery, but looking at the lyrics, it really was just about not giving up despite pressures or not letting pressure gets in your way. It was also about learning to let go of the things that bring you down. Ultimately, it was about loving yourself first and making sure you are respecting yourself and not letting yourself conform with societal norms while still being part of something, and that something was anything that you yourself want to be part of.

The song talked about how we all have fears, but these fears were ours and weren't anybody else's faults. With fears came doubts and blames that were directed to ourselves. When all of these negative thoughts echoed through voices - real and hallucinations - they were hard to cast off. Sometimes, we would have words that would trigger us and bring us into turmoil. We became sensitive because we were already thinking all of these negative things, pessimistic things, about us, but when somebody else mentioned something, we would use that as fuel to berate ourselves and think lowly of ourselves. We continually lose the love we have for ourselves.

This song would make you realize all these things. It would also make you realize that it was yourself who was bringing yourself down, beating your own self up - and you have to let go of all of this negativity inside you before you could love yourself without any limits. You have to cast the pessimistic side, so you can freely do whatever you want.  Once all of these barriers were gone, you could break through.
