It was a little messy, but this floor plan? I put a lot of effort into it. I haven't been clear as to what kind of house I want for myself in the future. I mean, I'm just a student with no job who asks his family for tuition money. I don't think I have the right to think about houses or floor plans and whatnot. But I'm a dreamer, and what do dreamers do? Dream. I can dream to have a house I want.
Lately, I've been watching The Sims4 Speed Building projects/videos by SimLicy. Check out her YouTube channel. I really like all her builds, especially those big family houses that she builds from the ground up. I love all the decorations, furniture, and the stories she put in every one of them. But mostly, I love the builds.
My Floor Plan |
For the floor plan, I drew (can I even call this a floor plan??) I want a two-story house with a detached garage, with gates and a huge backyard.
The foyer needs to hide the open area floor plan at the back, so I actually make sure that the foyer will be "hallway." I want the foyer to have a bench that acts as storage for shoes. I want some potted plants in there as well. Since the foyer is a hallway, maybe we can put a long carpet as well. On the walls, there will be one or two wall sconces and some paintings, maybe family pictures. I want to be a gallery.
To the right, there will be a home office that can act as a guest room. I want the doorway to be arched and the door to be wood with a brass knob. I want the doorknobs in the house to have their own characters, not just those store-bought knobs. Either way, when entering, the door will open inward. There will be two 4 ft. x 4 ft. windows; one facing the street, and the other facing the driveway.
There will be built-in drawers and shelves, an office table, and a swivel chair. Some filers and other office equipment, like printer, fax machine, and photocopier will be inside as well. On the other side, below the side window, there will be a sofa bed. In the morning, it can act as a sofa for guests or clients, and at night time, it will be their bed. The guest will also have their own bathroom. The bathroom is actually a full bath once the pocket door, which acts as a fake wall, is withdrawn. Other guests wouldn't know because the lock will be on the guest room's side of the bathroom. The shower, which is a square or a corner shower (see no. 3), is on the side of the guest room. If the space is tight, which might not be, then we can even have the door to this guest bathroom open outward.
Now, on the left side of the foyer will be the welcoming area. I called this a welcoming area because guests who don't need to see the kitchen and dining area can stay here. I think this area is a great place to entertain people because it opens to the wrapped-around front porch. There are two floor-to-almost-ceiling, or maybe even floor-to-ceiling, sliding doors. The staircase opens in this area behind the foyer. As you can see, the guest powder area/bathroom is actually the landing between the first and the second floors. The staircase that actually goes up to the second floor will have built-in shelves underneath it. I like a place for my books, so this area here can even be a reading area, with a small standing lamp, coffee table, and small reading chair. It'll be nice to use the wall here for family pictures, or like most Filipinos do, diploma frames. The room will have a "cool" vibe. I want to have lots of potted plants and blue curtains. As for the carpet, I like it if it's either a circular or rectangular carpet. The sofa will be those L-shaped sofas, but it will not be leather. Leather doesn't give off a cool vibe. I still like those sofas that are soft and full of cushions. (This or this). There will be a center table there and maybe a magazine holder. Standing lampshades will be on both corners of the sofa.
As you can see, parallel to the welcoming living room is the family room, but before we go there, there is a hallway. On the left side of the hallway is a storage room. I want to put all the cleaning supplies in this storage room - mops, vacuum, sanitizing wipes, window cleaners, etc. Going down the hallway (which has its own long carpet), on the corner before turning north, is the laundry area. The laundry area will be open. I decided that it will be like that because I want the hallway to flow until a person ends up in the kitchen. So in the laundry area, there will be a washing machine and a dryer. They will not sit side-by-side. Contrarily, there will be a counter between them. On the counter, we can put some decorations. This area will have its own cabinetry above the machines and the counter. The cabinetry will house the laundry detergents, fabric softeners, and other cleaning supplies. The washing machine and the dryer will open to their sides because I cannot reach the bottom of the washing machine, especially, due to my shortness. It hurts around the stomach when I try to do so. I need a stool every time I attempt it.
Rounding the corners of this hallway, we reach the kitchen. The kitchen will have a side door and stairs - a short stair with a small half-moon awning. It will be resistant to rain. The side door will have a screen door and a wall sconce at the side. The stairs will have cute railings. The pathway from the garage is a cobblestone pathway with little flower boxes on the sides and green patches of grass. When entering from this side door, the screen door will open outward, while the wooden door will open inward. There will be a small hallway here that opens to the kitchen and on the left side of the door is the pantry. The pantry will have multiple shelves and is big enough for people to walk into. On the right, there will be a counter and across, another separated counter can be used as a coffee counter. For this coffee counter, we can put the coffee machine, mugs, and other coffee materials in here. Instead of cabinetry, we'll have open shelving on this counter's wall. There will be cute small potted plants, coffee-related objects, and others. This counter will also have a drawer and an additional cabinet below. Inside the drawer, there will be stirrers and whatnot, and the cabinet will have two shelves. On the top shelf, we can put the extra mugs, water bottles, and thermos. We can also put the rice cooker inside when it's not used.
For the counter next to the door, we can put the microwave and toaster there. The drawer below will house the utensils, and the shelves below that will house the plates, bowls, and small plates (salad plates). We will have an oven/stove combo, and instead of a microwave/vent combo, there'll only be a vent. On the other side of the oven/stove is another counter. Unlike most houses, this house will not have any dishwasher (Filipinos don't use them). Instead, the extra spaces will be for Tupperware (that, Filipinos have a lot of those) - glass, plastic, etc. On the counter, there will be a knives rack and a fruit basket. For these countertops, there will be two 2 ft. x 4 ft. windows, so no cabinetry. Instead, there will be open corner shelves or open wall shelves for some decorations. The sink will face the back of the house. It will only have one sink, but the other side is a drying area (like this). The refrigerator/freezer combo is next to the sink. It'll be those double-doors type of refrigerator with the freezer acting like a big, pull-up drawer at the bottom. A big 4 ft. x 4 ft. window is in front of the sink - so the person washing the dishes will have a view of the backyard. Carpets are also a must-have, especially between the island and the stove/counters. The backsplash tiles will go around the counter walls and then climb the vent wall as well.
Edit: Maybe, instead of cabinetry below the counter, we can have drawers - shallow and deep drawers. I want open shelving, but maybe we can have one or two cabinetries above the counters. We also have to think about the different light fixtures.
This part of the house has an open-area-style wherein the family room opens to the dining and the kitchen rooms. Except for a little bit of wall between the dining area and the kitchen, the dining area and the family room is one big, continuous room. The dining area will house a rectangular table with four-to-six chairs. It can act as a formal dining or a casual dining area. There will be a huge cabinet for chinas and other porcelains, and The Last Supper cross-stitch will be hanging on one side. Below it will be the small wine-bar cabinet. There will be potted plants on the sides, some picture frames on the walls as well. There will be a floor-to-ceiling (or almost ceiling) glass slide door that opens to the back porch. In addition, I think a rectangular carpet will also put a great vibe in the room.
In the family room, to make it its own room from the dining, we have the sofa (this or this) facing the left side of the room. We can also put some console table behind the sofa - an additional place to put small potted plants, decorations, and picture frames. There will be a manual recliner seat. There will be two armchairs on the other side, a low coffee table in between. Two standing lampshades will be on both sides of the main sofa. A low, glass center table, very small and round in shape, will be in the middle. There will be a circular carpet in the family room as well. The television will be hanging on the walls. The wall speaker, DVD player, karaoke machine, and other controllers will be behind built-in cabinetry (or maybe not a built-in, but definitely all the cords and eyesores are behind closed cabinet doors. There will be a side to put additional floor-to-ceiling bookshelves or can be used to put different indoor potted plants. It can also be used as a place for the Christmas tree. The windows for the family room will be similar to that of the kitchen wherein they're 2 ft. x 4 ft. windows. And similarly, it will also have its own glass sliding door to the back porch. Another idea for these doors will be French doors - both for this and for the one in the dining room.
Either way, they will open to the back porch that has railings. Going to the right side, parallel to the kitchen, is a bigger area where the family can hang out. It will have a crescent sofa and an electronic fireplace. I also like the idea of an outdoor barbecue, so we have that equipment for it. This port will have two stairways, one to the garage and the other to the backyard. The backyard will have trees, flowering bushes, space for a vegetable and fruit trees garden, a playground, and maybe even a treehouse.
Around the house, there will be trees, bushes, flowers, cobblestone pathways, and ivy. There will be hanging plants, a coffee table for when you want to enjoy the front yard. There will be some benches and potted plants on the front porch, and several wall sconces.
Floor-wise, I want to have wooden floors, except for the kitchen and the bathrooms. In addition to wall sconces, it would be better to have chandeliers, especially in the foyer and in the dining room. As for the welcoming area and the family room, because it's a place where people hang out, maybe a fan-and-light combo is great. Similar to the guest/office room. This way, we don't need to bring in electric fans. Yes, the house will have centralized heating and air conditioning, but Filipinos are thrifty, so they still use those electric fans. For walls, I like smooth walls; textures need to come in as a decoration, not part of the wall.
Next will be the second floor of the house... you can read that here >>> Article | If Only I Could Make A Sims Version Of This Floor Plan 2
